Skaugen Marine Construction (SMC) is a division within the I.M. Skaugen Group. SMC manages I.M. Skaugen’s newbuilding activities in China.
I.M. Skaugen has been established in China for more than a decade, and has significant experience in shipping and shipbuilding related business in China. SMC utilizes the I.M. Skaugen Group’s in-house competence, experience and network, and offer its services to companies within the Group as well as 3rd party customers.
SMC operates from Shanghai with complete in-house resources and expertise as well as an established network of qualified subcontractors and partners. We believe that a balanced mix of international talent and technology together with local knowledge and experience is a key factor for success in China.
SMC has developed an unconventional set-up for newbuilding projects. The concept is based on shipbuilding by subcontracting, meaning management of qualified subcontractors to build customized and specialized ships more cost effectively compared with the “standard” method of designing, ordering and taking delivering of ships from established shipyards.
Thus our slogan: SMC – Ships More Competitive
SMC is managed from our office in Shanghai. About 50% of our staff is based in the office in Shanghai and the remaining is out on sites. Our internal resources in SMC are basically divided into the following teams.
